Professional Drivers: Tips to Stay Connected While You’re Away

This is the default value for this text field

Being a professional driver comes with plenty of benefits, like the freedom of seeing the world and setting your own schedule instead of being stuck in an office working a nine to five. But, that freedom comes at a cost. Especially for over-the-road drivers, it can mean long periods of times spent away from family, friends, and loved ones.

Today, I’m sharing a few ways for professional drivers to stay connected while they’re out on the road. I’ll cover a few ideas for staying in touch with and without technology.

New-School Ways

With modern technology, there are seemingly endless ways to stay in touch while you’re away.

Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are great ways to be social with people you’re physically far away from. They make it easy to share photos, videos, and words.

Video Chat

Applications like Skype, Facetime, and Google Hangouts allow you to communicate with someone face-to-face, even if you’re halfway across the country. It’s great to see someone’s eyes light up to talk to you or to see them smile after telling a joke.

Texting

Perhaps a mix of new-school and old-school, sending a quick text can be enough to let someone know you’re thinking of them. And, sometimes, that’s enough.

Old-School Ways

Staying in touch with modern technology is great, as long as that’s your thing. But, for those who prefer doing things the old school way, staying in touch can still be simple.

Letters

In today’s technology-driven world, when’s the last time you received a hand-written letter? There’s something pretty special about taking the time to sit down and write to someone you care about.

Share the beautiful sights with those back home. While you’re experiencing the mountains or seeing the Great Plains, you can send those views in the form of a postcard.

Souvenirs

Nowadays, the souvenir market has a little something for everyone. Any gift shop probably carries a few trinkets you could bring or send home to let someone know you’re thinking of them.

Whether you choose to stay in-touch in old-school or new-school ways, the most important thing is to stay in touch in some way. You might even do a combination of old and new ways. It's a great way to let your loved ones know they’re on your mind.
