Clearwater Travel Plaza Welcomes New Owners

The Nelson legacy lives on through the Olson family.

[CLEARWATER, MN] October 8, 2019 - An iconic central Minnesota truck stop, restaurant, and bakery today announces Dave Olson of Clear Lake as the new owner. The plaza was previously owned by Joel Nelson, a second-generation owner of the business.

"I've had my eyes on the travel plaza for years. It's extremely well-known, has a great reputation, and has been running successfully for decades," said Olson. "My family and I are excited for this new opportunity and look forward to being a part of the Clearwater Travel Plaza family."

Olson, along with his three adult children, also owns a handful of convenience stores and two other truck stops in central Minnesota: Olson's Truck Stop in Hasty and Trucker's Inn located in Sauk Centre.

"I wasn't exactly looking to sell the Plaza, but once I met Dave I knew my family legacy would be in good hands," said Joel Nelson. "Everything my family and I have built has brought me to this point. I'm excited for Dave and his children to continue growing the Plaza businesses and I'll be cheering for their success along the way."

Olson and Nelson are planning on a seamless transition from the hands of one family to another.

"Why come in and change a business that has been running successfully for years?" said Olson. He plans to keep the Clearwater Travel Plaza and Nelson Bros. Restaurant and Bakery running as is.

Olson ensures everything loved about the Travel Plaza will remain — including the commitment to service, community, and donuts the size of your face. Have no fear, your favorite staff, menu items, and excessively large bakery items will not change.
